Orthopaedic Associates Specializing in You.

What Does "Fellowship-Trained" Mean?

Once a doctor has completed five years of residency training, he or she can choose to go into practice as a general orthopaedic doctor, sports medicine doctor, or physical medicine and rehabilitation doctor. He or she can also apply for acceptance to a subspecialty fellowship. During a subspecialty fellowship, doctors train with internationally recognized experts in particular specialties, giving them the opportunity to concentrate on and master specialized orthopaedic techniques.

Dr. James F. Watt, surgeon at Orthopaedic Associates, received advanced fellowship training in shoulder, elbow, wrist, and hand surgery. With this specialized training, Dr. Watt provides his patients with experienced treatment for injuries and conditions affecting the shoulder, elbow, wrist, and hand.

Dr. Mark J. Tenholder, surgeon at Orthopaedic Associates, has received advanced fellowship training in orthopaedic surgery, minimally invasive surgery, joint replacement and revision, adult reconstruction, arthroscopy, and sports medicine. With this specialized training, Dr. Tenholder is able to provide patients with expert surgical treatment for a variety of orthopaedic injuries and conditions.

"I take great pride in my surgical skills and outcomes," Dr. Tenholder says. "Through my advanced training, and by keeping up to date on the newest surgical technologies and techniques, I am able to help my patients recover quickly, regain their mobility, and return to the activities they love."
