S.W.E.A.T. It Out!

If finding a solid conditioning program that promotes power, speed, and endurance in your athletes is a top priority for you and your coaching staff for the upcoming season, learn how Heartland Orthopedic Specialists’ Speed, Weights, Endurance, Agility, and Technique (S.W.E.A.T.) program can help. S.W.E.A.T. offers area athletes the benefit of a comprehensive complex conditioning program along with the added benefit of injury prevention.

After seeing an influx of young athletes in the Alexandria-area suffering from knee injuries relating to organized sports, our sports medicine experts at Heartland Orthopedic Specialists saw the need to provide a prevention and rehabilitation program. After significant research on multiple programs, the decision was made to utilize the Sportsmetrics model, S.W.E.A.T.

Founded by the Cincinnati Sports Medicine & Orthopaedic Center in Ohio, S.W.E.A.T. was created in response to the high level of ACL (anteriorcruciate ligament) injuries suffered by young male and female athletes in high-impact sports such as basketball, soccer, football, and volleyball.

“By focusing on proper technique in movements such as jumping and landing, in addition to weight training and endurance exercises,” says Dr. Eric W. Nelson, sports medicine specialist at Heartland Orthopedic Specialists, “athletes are trained how to avoid injury.”

In addition to selected drills in plyometrics, agility, speed, strength training, and flexibility, athletes are also introduced to the fundamentals of nutrition, attitude, injury prevention and care, visualization, and goal setting. The six-week offseason training program in Alexandria and Wheaton allows area male and female athletes to ultimately increase jump power and improve leg strength.

S.W.E.A.T. is offered in individual and team sessions. The program includes gymnasium work, core strength training, and weight lifting. For more information on the S.W.E.A.T. program, click here or call the sports medicine center at Heartland Orthopedic Specialists at (320) 335-6078.
