Hip Replacement Surgery Less Invasive

Each year more people are undergoing total hip replacement surgery to replace their arthritic joint, with more than 250,000 expected this year. However, new techniques have come along to help ease people’s apprehension about undergoing this surgery, including minimally invasive techniques.

Performed by orthopedic surgeons at Orthopedic Institute in Sioux Falls, minimally invasive procedures are less intrusive to patients undergoing a total hip replacement than traditional surgery. As a result, benefits may include less pain, quicker rehabilitation and recovery, and shorter hospital stays.

Minimally invasive incisions often measure only two to three inches. The artificial implant and how it is implanted are the same as traditional replacement surgery, but there is less soft-tissue dissection than with longer incisions.

Surgery is the last treatment option considered after conservative methods have been exhausted. Before you decide to have a minimally invasive hip replacement or to determine if you are a candidate for this surgery, make an appointment to be evaluated by an orthopedic surgeon at Orthopedic Institute.
