How Long Can Your Hip Implant Last?
There are many factors that determine the life of a hip implant, but recent medical advances have lengthened these lifespans. So how long can you expect a hip replacement to last?
As a surgical treatment option for joint diseases, a hip replacement can lead you back to an active lifestyle and relieve your pain. Your age, activity level, and body mass are all determining factors in the life of your implant. Some implants contain wear-resistant material, giving them longer lifespans, but on average, most hip replacements can last anywhere from 25-30 years.
“There is no question that having a hip replacement can increase your activity level and restore normal function,” explains Dr. Brian A. Jewett, total joint replacement surgeon at Slocum Center for Orthopedics & Sports Medicine. “However, due to the uniqueness of each person’s body structure, it is difficult to gauge exactly how long an implant will last.”
