Slocum Center for Orthopedics & Sports Medicine provided orthopedic care for the IAAF World Junior Track and Field Championships, held in Eugene, June 22nd through the 27th, 2014. This was the first time the world championship event had been held in the United States.
The group of Slocum Center for Orthopedics and Sports Medicine doctors who donated their services at the event included:
“I’ve always enjoyed helping athletes recover from injuries and return to competitive activity,” says Dr. Stanley L. James, a Slocum sports medicine doctor who has been caring for track and field athletes of all ages since the 1960s. “This was a fantastic opportunity for our doctors to help young athletes stay safe and compete at their best.”
The Slocum Center for Orthopedics & Sports Medicine volunteers treated athletes with hamstring, ankle, and foot injuries and performed basic evaluations to ensure runners could complete their races safely.
In 2016, both the IAAF Junior National Championships and the Olympic Trials will be held in Eugene at Hayward field.
